About the event
Join us to remove small woody invasives, cottonwood and buckthorn, from one of our treasured remnant prairies. Our natural areas staff will demonstrate how to remove it effectively. Volunteers can space themselves and work safely. If we have enough volunteers, we may also do some seed collection. You can join a prairie walk around afterwards to enjoy what is in bloom.
Grand Prairie Friends is reimbursed for volunteers hours removing invasive plants at Loda Cemetery through an IL Dept of Natural Resources grant.  So it's doubly nice if you can come. Directions: In Loda, turn left on Jefferson St (210N) then right on Mulberry St. Follow signs to Pine Ridge Cemetery.  Park on road south of the cemetery and walk the mowed path NNE to preserve. The address is Pine Ridge Cemetery, Loda, IL 60948. What to Bring: Appropriate clothing – long pants and shirt, work shoes, gloves, and bug spray. Tools will be available but feel free to bring your personal tools - transplant shovel or pointed shovel. Covid 19 Adaptations: plenty of room to space out; no organized carpooling. Drinks and snacks provided. Cancellations: cancellations will be announced on Facebook and through email to those who RSVP.
