Learn to identify and remove common woody invasive plants.
Time & Location
Aug 20, 2022, 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM
Warbler Ridge Conservation Area, 17001, 18261 Daileyville Rd, Charleston, IL 61920, USA
About the event
Wilson Montgomery, hwmontgo@gmail.com, Grand Prairie Friends volunteer and Warbler Ridge Champion, invites you to join him on the 3rd Saturday in July at 9 am to remove common woody invasive plants.  He will teach identification of invasives and removal techniques. He is also very knowledgeable about Warbler Ridge's ecology, flora, and fauna so working alongside him is a learning experience.  This will likely become a monthly event.
Independent Work Also Possible:
Volunteers are also welcome to work independently to remove common woody invasives. Our Stewardship Saturdays on the first of the month focus on dense infestations. But it is extremely helpful to have volunteers tackling the outliers before they become a real problem. The primary ones are honeysuckle, autumn olive, and multiflora rose.
Grand Prairie Friends will provide herbicide and tools for volunteer use at the station at Warbler Crossing (17487 Bypass Rd, Charleston, IL). Â
Email Jill Maes jill@grandprairiefriends.org a day ahead if you plan to pick some up.
We will also provide an id sheet for the common woody invasives and we can suggest areas to explore.
